President's Message

Elaine Bowman, NACE Foundation President

In 2002, the NACE Foundation was created to extend corrosion awareness into our education system. Since the beginning, we have dedicated all our efforts and energy into educating and exciting students and the public about corrosion science and engineering.

The past year has been a benchmark year for the Foundation. We witnessed our most exciting year. Highlights of the year include:

  • Academic Scholarships & Travel Assistance
The distribution of over $30K in academic scholarships and travel assistance to over 40 students around the world whose studies are focused on corrosion.

  • Online Resource Library
An online resource library on corrosion will soon be available to students and the public which will provide them with the most current and complete information on corrosion.

  • Public Awareness Video
A video on corrosion which aired on PBS throughout the US, reaching over 3 million people.

  • Teacher Camps
A corrosion toolkit and education curriculum will be distributed to high school teachers, and for the first time in our history, corrosion will be introduced in high school classrooms throughout targeted US classrooms.

None of these programs would be possible without the support, dedication and hard work of many people. We are working every day to introduce the possibility of corrosion as an exciting career to the public.

I am excited about the Foundation's growth and future. Together we can make an impact on the future of our industry and society.

Elaine Bowman
President
