August 2004
The NACE Foundation Partners with Teachersto Excite and Educate Young People in Math and Science The NACE Foundation began their
partnership in 2004 with the ASM Materials Education Foundation on the
first ASM Materials Camp — Teachers in Houston. The camp was held
at the University of Houston campus on August 2-6, 2004. It was targeted
at high school teachers with emphasis on exciting young people
in math and science. This week long workshop gave teachers hands-on
experience to use applied engineering techniques in the classroom. Participating
teachers from Texas and throughout the Southwest received a comprehensive
series of low/no cost laboratory demonstrations in applied science to
use in chemistry, physics, math, technology and industrial arts. They
left the workshop with a greater appreciation for the importance of
these materials to modern life.

participant in this camp. He gave a two-hour interactive presentation
on corrosion to the teachers participating in the camp. His presentation
was well received and a lengthy question & answer session followed.
Copies of the Inspector Protector Story Book were distributed and welcomed
by the captive audience.
