1. How was the NACE Foundation created and what is its Mission?
Since 1986, the NACE Foundation has existed within NACE International in the form of an Endowment Committee. It was officially formed as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in 2002 by a group of visionary and dedicated people who have devoted their lives to the corrosion industry.
Since that time, we have created many exemplary programs focused on engaging students and educators on corrosion issues. This has been accomplished through the implementation of education programs, academic scholarships and awards, and the creation of business partnerships which allow us to continually grow and make a difference in the lives of students around the world.
Our mission is to inspire students and educators to engage in the field of corrosion science and engineering.
2. What is the difference between NACE International and the NACE Foundation?
NACE International is a professional non-profit trade association which was established in 1954. The original members intended to create a professional society that addressed the corrosion industry. For a more information about NACE International click here.
The NACE Foundation was created by NACE International in 2002 as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with the sole purpose of inspiring students and educators to engage in the field of corrosion science and engineering.
3. Are donations to the NACE Foundation tax deductible?
Yes. The Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax exempt support organization recognized in the United States and therefore donations are tax deductible in the US, and now in Canada through the NACE Foundation of Canada.

4. How can I donate to the NACE Foundation?
When you contribute to the NACE Foundation, you’re making an investment in the future of our industry. All financial donations are allocated 100% towards the implementation of Foundation targeted programs. Donations are accepted by check, credit card or in cash.

6. Who are your financial sponsors and partners?
We are financially supported by some of the industry's top companies.
Also, we have created business partnerships with companies who share our vision and goals. Together, we are moving forward to increase public awareness of corrosion issues.
Finally, we have created an aggressive business development plan which targets financial support from public and private industry and encourages the development of long-term partnerships. This is in addition to our annual fundraising events.

7. What is the NACE Foundation doing to increase public awareness about corrosion?
The Foundation has many programs which are focused on public awareness: feature video presentation which will introduce the public to basic corrosion awareness; creation of corrosion curriculum which will introduce exciting corrosion based experiments and recommended curriculum to high school teachers across the US; introduction of the Inspector Protector story book to children ages 8-15; creation of an online resource library which will be the largest source of corrosion information on the internet; and many more exciting new programs to come in 2005.
8. Are there any NACE Foundation programs designed for international students?
Yes. The Foundation distributes many scholarship to students interested in pursuing a career in the field of corrosion. A few of them are open to international applicants who meet the eligibility requirements.
9. Who is Inspector Protector?
Inspector Protector and the Colossal Corrosion Fighters, is a story book hero created out of the hard work and vision of a group of dedicated members of NACE. This story book is targeted for children ages 8-15 and is designed to give them their first exciting introduction to the concept of corrosion.

Each year, the NACE Foundation allocates $10,000 in Travel Assistance to divide up among scholarship recipients and Student Poster Session participants attending the NACE Annual Conference.

The University of Akron is now offering the nation's first B.S. degree in corrosion engineering!
14. Are there any universities that have an emphasis on corrosion education?

15. How can I become a student member and what are the benefits?
Student membership has definite advantages. NACE has over 17,000 members worldwide. A growing number of these members are students or under the age of 25. This portion of the membership has the best potential for growth in the coming years and the Foundation is committed to assisting in the growth.

16. What is the Student Poster Session and how can I apply?
The Student Poster Session is the recognized technical conference forum for the youngest members of the corrosion field. It provides valuable experience along the critical path to the successful development of educated young professionals who will fill key roles in industry, government and academia. To encourage student involvement in the field of corrosion technology, the NACE Research Committee sponsors a Student Poster Session at NACE's Annual Conference. This event allows registrants to stay up-to-date on current university research projects and gives students and prospective employers an opportunity to meet and discuss the technical issues highlighted in their poster presentation.
