This year, the NACE Foundation awarded (1) one academic scholarship in the amount of $1,000, to:
- Charlie Bierstetel, Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools
The recipient will be recognized at the NACE Detroit Section meeting on April 20, 2011.
In 2012, the NACE Detroit Section will award the following:
- One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a candidate who is a member or related through family to a NACE Detroit Section member.
- One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a candidate who is referred through a NACE Detroit Section member.
Submission for 2012 scholarships will begin September 1, 2011.
1. Eligibility Requirements
- The student must be a member, related or referred by a member of NACE International, Detroit Section, that is in good standing.
- The student must be enrolled or accepted to an accredited college / university and working toward a degree in Engineering or Sciences.
- Students enrolled in 2-year or junior colleges are eligible to apply.
- The scholarship recipient must maintain full-time status at an accredited college/university.
- The student must have and maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Post-doctorate students are not eligible.
2. Candidate Evaluation
- The following information should be included for review by the Selection Committee:
- One copy of completed application signed by student and parent/guardian if student is under the age of 18
- Academic record, including official transcript with description of school's grading system
- Personal and/or professional activities, in and out of school
- Detailed work experience (if applicable), particularly if related to corrosion work and activities
- Description of past/current/future research plans
- A 500-750 word essay about corrosion and the effect on you and your environment (The topic should deal with corrosion in your interested area of study. Suggested topic material can be found in the Resource Center on NACE International’s Web site.)
- Two letters of recommendation from educators or employers
- A letter of recommendation from the referring NACE Detroit Section member
