The Melvin J. Schiff Fellowship Fund was established in 2001, by the family, friends and associates of Mel Schiff, to honor his contributions to the corrosion control community. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding  student,  professional or technician, in the United States, who is interested in furthering his or her knowledge of corrosion and corrosion control.

Both the NACE Los Angeles Section and NACE Foundation are committed to encouraging and assisting the most qualified and brightest individuals as they reach for their career goals and ambitions.

This year, the NACE Foundation awarded (1) one $1,000 scholarship to the following student, on behalf of the NACE Los Angeles Section:

The Melvin J. Schiff Fellowship Fund was announced at the NACE Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday, March 17, 2010.   

Eligibility
Eligibility to apply for this scholarship is open to any professional, technician or full / part-time college or university student (enrolled at an accredited college or university) in the United States, who demonstrates an interest in furthering his or her knowledge of corrosion and corrosion control.

Application Requirements
To be considered, please send a written response, which includes why you need the scholarship and how you will utilize the funds. Your response should be no longer than one page, double-spaced, including your name, address, phone number, fax number and e-mail address. Possible uses of the scholarship can include taking a corrosion course or attending a regional, national or international conference or seminar.

Applicants must also submit two (2) official Recommendation Forms as letters of reference from colleagues, educators or employers.

Student applicants should also include a transcript of recent academic record and current grade point average. The information should include a description of the grading system for student performance for the institution.

Travel Assistance, Publicity, Reporting
Recipients of the NACE Foundation scholarships are also eligible to apply for Travel Assistance for travel-related expenses to accept their award in person at the NACE Annual Conference. For more information on Travel Assistance, click here.

If the scholarship recipient is already enrolled in the NACE Student Poster Session and has requested Travel Assistance, there is no need to reapply for assistance. Only one application per applicant is accepted. 

Suitable press releases and announcements in Materials Performance, and the Final NACE Annual Conference Program will also be prepared by NACE Foundation staff. 

Upon acceptance, all scholarship recipients must submit a current color photograph of themselves to the NACE Foundation, which will be used for publicity purposes. 

The recipient shall submit a letter report to the NACE Foundation within one year of receipt of the scholarship describing how scholarship monies were utilized and how the award aided their education.
