2011 Hans Schmoldt Scholarship Recipient

Each year the NACE Foundation administers a scholarship in Cathodic Protection on behalf of the Schmoldt Foundation for Education.
The scholarship will be awarded to one college or university student chosen by the Selection Committee, consisting of up to five Cathodic Protection professionals, who demonstrates an applied interest in the art and science of Cathodic Protection.
This year, the NACE Foundation will award the following on behalf of the Schmoldt Foundation:
- One (1) Hans Schmoldt Scholarship in Cathodic Protection in the amount of $6,850
1. Eligibility Requirements
- Open to any full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled at any accredited college or university worldwide
- Candidate must have completed a minimum 8-week internship in the field of Cathodic Protection in the calendar year prior to receipt of the scholarship award. Alternately, the applicant may complete his/her internship within the second calendar year period following the award of the scholarship. (The NACE Foundation will attempt to assist the scholarship recipient, to a limited degree, with locating
summer internship employment; however, it is ultimately the responsibility of the recipient to secure
such employment.)
- A few examples of such cathodic protection internships may be in the field of construction, field surveying, equipment maintenance, materials and equipment manufacturing, office procedures, hands-on maintenance, or any combination thereof
2. Candidate Evaluation
The following information should be included for review by the Selection Committee:
- One copy of completed application;
- Academic transcript, including description of grading system for student performance;
- Three recommendations from educators or employers familiar with applicants background;
- Description of documented previous work experience; personal activities and leadership on the official
Work Experience Form;
- 100 word essay documenting their interests, skills, specific achievements and work experience learned in their Cathodic Protection summer internship (if applicable)
3. Expense Reimbursement
- Recipient will be provided with reimbursement of travel expenses to attend the NACE Annual Conference in March and receive their award in person. Travel-related expenses will include transportation, hotel, per-diem meal allowance, student registration, banquet ticket, and a one-year student membership to NACE International;
- If the recipient has prior knowledge they are unable to attend the conference at the time of their application, they must indicate and include reason(s) why they will not be able to attend. Consideration will still be given to students unable to attend in person;
- Expense items (airfare, hotel) must be approved by the NACE Foundation prior to purchase;
- Expense items must be economy rate or equivalent;
- Per diem meal allowance not to exceed $50.00/day;
- All reimbursements must be submitted to the NACE Foundation with original receipts;
- Hotel stay not to exceed two-night stay and must be scheduled within conference dates
