Message from the President
NACE Foundation of Canada

R. Winston Revien
President
NACE Foundation of Canad
a

The NACE Foundation of Canada has made considerable progress since its incorporation in Canada as a charitable organization in December 2006.  Acting on our mission statement to inspire students and educators to engage in the field of corrosion science and engineering, our focus has remained on student support and advancing corrosion education.

The NACE Foundation of Canada makes travel funds available for university students to attend NACE conferences. We support awards for student presentations at Northern Area conferences. Building on the initiative of the NACE Canadian National Capital Section in establishing a corrosion course at Carleton University in Ottawa in 2005, the NACE Foundation of Canada is supporting the purchase of equipment at Carleton for studying corrosion of steel reinforcements in concrete. The modular design of this equipment will make it possible to replicate these facilities at other laboratories where they can be used for educational purposes. We are also initiating a Research Award for innovative and shortterm research targeted at reducing the cost of corrosion.

In partnership with the ASM Materials Education Foundation, we have organized materials workshops at teacher conferences in Alberta and in week-long Materials Camps in Ontario. We recently completed a very successful one-week camp for teachers at Ashbury College in Ottawa, and are developing plans to raise the profile of the Ottawa Materials Camp to make it an annual event. We plan to expand the camps for teachers to other sites in Canada, including the Maritimes.

As a charitable organization, the NACE Foundation of Canada issues tax receipts for donations. The
NACE membership renewal form includes an opportunity for you to donate. If you prefer, you can
donate in Canada through the United Way, by indicating the name of the charity and the registration
number: NACE Foundation of Canada, 834036923RR0001.

I would also like to thank my friends and colleagues on the foundation board for their considerable
efforts to make the foundation a success. I also thank all those who, through their generous donations,
make these activities possible. I encourage new donors to join our team of active supporters for corrosion
education and career development. Donors help in a tangible way to develop the next generation of
professionals to control, manage and prevent corrosion, as well as ensure reliability of materials.
